Ducommun Incorporated Announces $2.1 Million Contract Award For Acoustic Technology Development
LOS ANGELES, California (August 1, 2007) -- Ducommun Incorporated (NYSE: DCO) today announced that its Ducommun Technologies, Inc. (DTI) subsidiary has been awarded an Advanced Technology Development (ATD) contract sponsored by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command, in Huntsville, Alabama. The initial contract award is valued at $2.1 million. If all options are exercised, the contract value is in excess of $42 million.

The ATD program consists of four primary focus areas to include: 1) real-time tracking and classification of battlefield targets, 2) long-range detection of low-frequency sources such as launcher vehicles, missile launches, and natural occurring phenomenon such as hurricanes and earthquakes, 3) acoustic instrumentation of airborne surveillance systems, and 4) development of advanced acoustic signal processing techniques fundamental to enhancing the capabilities in the application areas above. These efforts are led by a program team including Miltec Research and Technology, The University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University.

The ATD contract will enable significant development and more definitive demonstration of capabilities on all tasks in parallel with the transfer of proven technology to forward deployed defense programs/systems. Foremost in the minds of all working this project is the development of new and innovative ways passive transducers can be utilized to assist the soldier on the battlefield.

Joseph C. Berenato, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Ducommun, stated, “Participation in such technology development programs has been a hallmark of Miltec for the last ten years. We hope to capitalize on Miltec’s design engineering capabilities to not only win such development contracts, but to use Ducommun’s extensive manufacturing capabilities to drive these development programs to production programs, where appropriate. We believe that providing both the front end development and back end manufacturing capability will make us more valuable to our key customers, which is a core strategy of the Company.”
